Hey everyone!
A lot of people think that life at Rafa Nadal Academy is just 24/7 tennis, courts, fitness, and repeat. And honestly, for the most part, they’re right. The workload here is insane, and the pressure to get better every single day is intense.
But what happens when we’re not on the court?
To avoid burnout and not go crazy from doing the same thing over and over, it’s vital for us to “switch off” our tennis brains. And of course, we do that through… other sports. There are two clear favorites at the academy that give us a full reset.
1. Basketball: The Classic for Team Spirit
This is our main way to “let off steam.” In tennis, you’re always alone on the court. You’re on your own, and all the responsibility is on you. Basketball is the complete opposite.
It’s the perfect reset:
- Team Vibe: Unlike tennis, here you play 5-on-5. You run, you pass, you defend together. It’s pure fun and that team spirit that’s sometimes missing.
- Different Load: It’s explosive speed, jumping, and different footwork. You’re still moving, but completely different muscles are working.
- “Letting Off Steam”: There’s nothing better than getting together with the guys and just “shooting hoops.” It’s the best way to release all that pent-up energy without any pressure. (Although, of course, some guys still go for dunks like it’s the NBA Finals! )

2. Padel: The New Hype That Sharpens Reactions
And this is our new trend that has completely taken over the academy. If you haven’t tried Padel yet, you’re missing out.
It’s a wild mix: think of it as tennis mixed with squash. It’s played 2-on-2 in a court enclosed by glass walls, which you can actually play the ball off of!
It’s incredibly fast, strategic, and demands insane reactions at the net. It’s perfect training for “soft hands” and volleying, but in a format where everyone is just laughing and having a good time.
Why Do All This?
When you are constantly focused on one thing (like making your forehand land exactly on the line), your brain gets tired.
Basketball and Padel aren’t just “rest.” They are an active reset. You return to the tennis court at Rafa Nadal Academy feeling fresh, with a clear head, and most importantly—”hungry” for tennis again.
Life here isn’t just about becoming a machine. It’s about finding balance and enjoying the process.
